Waikanae Beach has long been a beloved summer retreat for our clients to unwind and recharge from their busy lives. However, as their family grew and older children began making memories of their own, the classic family bach needed to adapt to the demands of modern living. The original home was stripped back to its framing while carefully preserving its nostalgic Kiwi charm, achieving a perfect balance of relaxed coastal style and modern comfort.

At the heart of the home, the beloved exposed timber trusses and tongue-and-groove ceiling were restored and refreshed with a crisp white finish, flooding the space with natural light while maintaining that quintessential summer holiday vibe. The open-plan kitchen and living area now flows effortlessly onto a broad new deck, creating an inviting space for outdoor entertaining, complete with a practical outdoor shower for rinsing off after days at the beach.

To ensure the home remains effortless to maintain, hard-wearing exterior cladding was selected to withstand the coastal elements, while light timber flooring and tiled living spaces inside allow for easy cleanup after sandy days. The updated layout expands the footprint to include a peaceful primary bedroom with a private ensuite, a garage to keep vehicles protected from the salt and sand, and a custom natural timber staircase and screen that adds warmth and texture to the interior. The result is a beautifully revitalized beach sanctuary ready for generations of family gatherings.
