Alteration to an Existing House
Located in Aro Valley on the outskirts of Wellington city, the existing house with two bedrooms and small kitchen and living space was in need of more open living spaces and another bedroom/study music room. As the house is in a Wellington valley, capturing the sun light that is available was a vital aspect of this alteration. Another design challenge was including an existing cabbage tree which was located on the property, where the extension was proposed to go. Instead of just cutting it down it was decided to use it as a design feature where it is incorporated into the primary bedroom, located between the wardrobe and en-suite. The living room features a large built-in bookshelf which spans one wall of the room. The open plan living provides a light shared space with skylights to help bring the daylight further into an otherwise dark space.
